Terms of Service
The rules for playing Lunar Looters. We tried to write them in plain language.
1. Acceptance and who can play
By creating an account or playing Lunar Looters (the "Game"), you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Game.
You must be 13 or older. When you sign up, the sign-up screen asks for your month and year of birth. It uses them in your browser only, to work out your age group (see the Privacy Policy). If you are under 13, you may not create an account or use the Game. If we learn that someone under 13 has an account, we will close it and delete the personal information we hold about them.
If you are 13 to 17, you may play the Game, and make any purchase in it, only with the permission of a parent or guardian. When you sign up you are asked to confirm, with a tick, that a parent or guardian has agreed. If you are not sure, ask them to read these Terms with you. A parent or guardian can contact us at any time (section 12).
We cannot check anyone's age or a parent's permission. We rely on what players tell us, and giving a false age or false permission breaks these Terms. We may close an account if we learn that it does.
If you are using the Game for a company or other organization, you confirm you are allowed to accept these Terms for it.
2. Accounts
- Give us accurate sign-up information, and keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Your call sign is public to other players and cannot be changed later. Do not pick a call sign that is hateful, sexual, or pretends to be another person.
- One person, one account, unless we say otherwise. Do not sell, trade or give away an account.
- Tell us promptly if you think someone else is using your account.
3. Acceptable use
Play fair and be decent to other players. You agree not to:
- break the law, or help anyone else break it, using the Game;
- harass, threaten, stalk or discriminate against other players, or use chat for spam or scams;
- cheat, exploit bugs for gain, tamper with the Game or its servers, probe for security holes without our written permission, or overload the service;
- use bots or scripts that act as a player, scrape the service, or reverse engineer the server;
- pretend to be a staff member, another player, or anyone else;
- try to get around a limit, a block or a moderation decision, for example by making a new account after losing a privilege.
4. Profile pictures
If profile pictures are switched on, you may upload one picture to show next to your call sign. Other players can see it. These rules apply to every picture:
- No sexual content, no nudity, and no graphic violence or gore.
- No hateful content, including symbols or images that attack people because of who they are.
- Nothing illegal, including anything that sexualizes or exploits a minor. Child sexual abuse material is never allowed, and we report it to the authorities.
- No pictures of other people without their consent. Never upload an intimate or private image of anyone who has not agreed to its being shared.
- No copyrighted images you do not have the right to use. Only upload pictures you took, made, or are allowed to use.
- No impersonation. Do not use a picture to make people think you are someone else, such as another player, a public figure or our staff.
- No personal information about anyone (for example a picture of an ID, a license plate or a home address).
If you are under 18: we ask you not to use a photo of your face or anything that shows where you live. A drawing, a logo or your rover works great. The Game shows this reminder in My Profile, next to the picture settings (to everyone, and more prominently to players who said they are 13 to 17). Pictures are shown to other players in the same way for every age group.
You are responsible for the pictures you upload. See the Privacy Policy for how pictures are processed.
5. Your content and our permission to show it
You keep ownership of what you create and upload, including your profile picture. To run the Game, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free permission to store, resize, re-encode, host, copy and display your picture (and your call sign and other content you post, such as chat) to other players and to people who use the Game's features, for as long as it is on the Game. This permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for backup copies that are removed as they rotate out and copies we must keep by law (see the Privacy Policy).
You promise that you have the right to give us this permission, and that your content follows these Terms.
6. Moderation
- Reports. Any player can report a picture in the Game. You can also send formal requests from the Report abuse / legal requests page.
- Hiding. A picture may be hidden while we review it, for example after several reports. Reports about intimate images shared without consent, and about child safety, hide the picture right away. To stop misuse of this, one person or network can only hide a limited number of pictures a day this way, and any others are reviewed by us as quickly as we can.
- Removal. We may remove any picture or other content that breaks these Terms or the law, with or without notice.
- Repeat violators. Players who repeatedly break the picture rules lose the ability to upload pictures, and may lose their account.
- Immediate loss. Uploading child sexual abuse material or intimate images of someone without their consent means an immediate and permanent loss of picture privileges, and we may close the account and report it to the authorities.
- A report is not a verdict. Reporting a picture does not tell the owner who reported it.
- We do not promise to review every item, and we may make mistakes. If you think we got a decision wrong, contact us (section 12).
7. Mods
The Game lets you turn on "mods", which are add-ons written by other people. Mods are third-party code that we have not checked. They run in your browser and can change how the Game looks and behaves. If you turn on a mod, you do so entirely at your own risk. We are not responsible for what a mod does, for any loss it causes, or for the content it shows. Only enable mods from people you trust, and turn a mod off if it behaves strangely.
If you publish a mod, you are responsible for it, and it must follow these Terms and the law.
8. Virtual items and credits
- Credits, parts, paint and other in-game items are virtual. They are a license to use them inside the Game, not property, and have no cash value.
- Payments for credits are handled by Stripe. We do not see or store your full card details. Stripe's own terms and privacy notice apply to the payment.
- If you are 13 to 17, you may make a purchase only with the permission of a parent or guardian (see section 1). If you are paying with someone else's card or account, you need their permission too.
- Credits and items cannot be transferred outside the Game or exchanged for money, except through features of the Game we offer (for example, the in-game parts market, if it is switched on).
- We may change prices, balance items, or remove items for game design, safety or legal reasons.
9. Ending your account
You can stop playing at any time, and you can delete your profile picture and your saved name and address from inside the Game. We may suspend or end your account, or limit features, if you break these Terms, if we must do so by law, or to protect the Game and other players. If we end your account for breaking the rules, you may lose your credits and items. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as 5, 10 and 11) will survive.
10. Disclaimers and limits
The Game is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will always work, be error free, or be available. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, or lost items, and our total responsibility to you for any claim about the Game is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or a small fixed amount if you paid nothing).
Nothing in these Terms limits rights that cannot be limited by law.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms. Each version has a date (see the version line below). When we make an important change, we may ask you to accept the new version before you can use some features, such as uploading a picture. If you keep using the Game after a change, you agree to the new Terms.
12. Contact
For questions about these Terms, or to report abuse or send a legal request, use the Report abuse / legal requests page. Parents and guardians can use the same contact details to ask about a child's account, or to ask us to delete a child's information (see the Privacy Policy).
