Privacy Policy
What Lunar Looters collects, why, who can see it, and what you can do about it.
1. What we collect
- Account details: your email address and password. Sign-in is handled by Google Firebase Authentication. We never see your password.
- Name and mailing address: your first and last name, which you give us when you create an account, and, only if you are 18 and over and choose to, an optional mailing address (street address, city, state, zip code and country). We do not ask for a mailing address from players aged 13 to 17: the sign-up screen does not show those boxes to them. You can play without ever giving an address. What we do hold is stored encrypted, is not shown to other players, and you can view, change or clear it in the Game (My Profile). An address that a 13 to 17 year old gave us before this change stays on file, hidden in the Game, until they clear it with "Clear My Name & Address" (or a parent or guardian asks us to delete it, see "Children and teens").
- Call sign: the public name other players see.
- Gameplay data: where your vehicle is, your score, credits, parts and paint, which vehicle you drive, chat messages you send, and parts-market activity.
- Age group and terms record: the version of the Terms you accepted and when, your age group (13 to 17, or 18 and over) and, for 13 to 17, that you ticked the box saying a parent or guardian agreed. We do not collect your date of birth: the sign-up screen asks for your month and year of birth, uses them in your browser to pick your age group, and does not send or store them (see "Children and teens").
- Payments: when you buy credits, the payment is handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation of the purchase, not your full card number.
- Profile picture (optional): if you upload one, the picture itself and basic records about it (when it was uploaded, reports about it, moderation decisions).
- Technical data: things our servers see when you connect, such as your IP address, browser type and security logs. We use them to run the service, prevent abuse and rate-limit requests.
2. How we use it
To run the Game and your account; to show your call sign, score and picture to other players; to process purchases; to keep the Game safe (moderation, fraud and abuse prevention, legal requests); to meet legal obligations; and to improve the Game. We do not sell your personal information.
3. Profile pictures
- Resized and re-encoded. Your picture is cropped, resized and saved again in your browser before it is sent, and our server resizes and re-encodes it again. The result is a new, small image file, not your original.
- Metadata is removed. Hidden data inside a photo (EXIF), such as the place and time it was taken or the camera, is removed in that process and is not stored.
- Other players can see it. Treat your picture as public to everyone who plays the Game, and do not upload anything you would not want public.
- No face recognition. We do not run face recognition, and we do not create or store face templates or other biometric identifiers from your picture.
- When a moderator removes a picture for breaking our rules or the law, we may keep its file fingerprint (a hash) on a block list, and compare new uploads with that list, so the same picture cannot be put back. The list only holds pictures that were removed from this Game; we do not use an outside database of illegal images. We also keep a record of pictures that were reported, in order to enforce our rules and the law.
4. Who sees what
| Data | Who can see it |
|---|---|
| Call sign, score, vehicle, chat messages | Other players |
| Profile picture | Other players (wherever your call sign appears, such as the leaderboard, chat and the parts market) |
| Email, name, mailing address | You, and the few people who run the service when needed to provide support or meet a legal duty. Not other players. |
| Payment details | Stripe |
This is the same for every age group: the Game does not show teens' information to other players differently from adults'. We use service providers to run the Game, such as Google (sign-in), our hosting and database providers, and Stripe (payments). They may only use the data to provide their service to us. We may also share information when the law requires it, to respond to valid legal requests, to protect people's safety, or to report child sexual abuse material to the authorities (see "Reports" and "How long we keep things").
5. Reports
When a player reports a picture, we record the report so we can review it. The reporter's identity is never shown to the player who was reported. If you send a formal request from the Report abuse / legal requests page, the name and email you give us are used to handle and answer your request, and they may be shared with the person who uploaded the content only where the law requires it (for example, a copyright notice may need to be passed on).
6. How long we keep things
- Account and gameplay data: while your account is active.
- Deleted pictures and accounts: when you delete a picture, or your account is deleted, the data is erased from our live systems. Copies can remain in backups until those backups rotate out, after which they are gone.
- Child safety: material that is reported as child sexual abuse material, and records about it, is preserved for at least one year as the law requires, and is reported to the authorities (for example the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children). We do not delete it on request during that time.
- Legal and safety records: we keep records of reports, takedown requests and moderation decisions for as long as needed to enforce our rules and meet our legal duties.
7. Your choices
- Remove your profile picture at any time: open My Profile in the Game and choose "Remove picture".
- Clear your saved name and address (including one saved earlier if you are 13 to 17): My Profile, then "Clear My Name & Address". This does not delete your account, score or credits. It does clear your saved acceptance of the Terms, so you will be asked to accept them again before you upload a picture.
- To close your account or ask about the data we hold about you, use the contact details below. Parents and guardians can do this for a child's account too (see "Children and teens").
- Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights (for example to access, correct or delete your data). Contact us and we will respond as the law requires.
8. Children and teens
Lunar Looters is for people 13 and older.
- Under 13. The sign-up screen does not let anyone who says they are under 13 create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, and if we learn that we have, we delete it. If you are a parent or guardian and you think a child under 13 has an account or has given us information, contact us (below) and tell us the call sign or email address on the account. Please do not send a photo or ID. We will delete the account and the information we hold.
- How the age screen works. The sign-up screen asks for your month and year of birth. They are used only in your browser, to decide which age group you are in. They are not sent to us and not stored. We store only the age group (13 to 17, or 18 and over), the parent/guardian tick for 13 to 17, and the Terms version and time. If the screen finds that someone is under 13, no account is created and nothing is sent to us. Your browser keeps a small note (just the time, no age or date) for 7 days, so the screen is not simply tried again straight away. That note never leaves your browser, and you can clear it by clearing this site's data.
- We cannot check ages. We rely on the answers players give.
- 13 to 17. A teen may play, and may make any purchase, only with the permission of a parent or guardian, and we ask them to tick a box at sign-up to say so. We do not ask teens for any more information than adults, and we do not ask them for a mailing address at all. Parents and guardians can contact us (below) to ask what we hold about their teen, to have it corrected, or to have it deleted.
- Pictures. In My Profile, the Game reminds everyone, and teens more prominently, not to use a photo of their face or anything that shows where they live. Pictures are visible to other players in the same way for every age group. We may switch off new picture uploads for the 13 to 17 age group at any time; pictures that are already there are not removed by that, and anyone can still remove their own.
- Existing players. Players who joined before 2026-10-10 are asked the same age question, with the Terms, in My Profile before they can upload a picture. They can keep playing without answering. If an existing player's answer is "under 13", the Game keeps picture upload closed and sends us nothing; if we learn of such an account we may close it and delete its information.
9. Changes
We may update this policy. Each version has a date (see the version line below). When a change is important, we may ask you to accept the new version before you can use some features.
